Today’s Blogtember prompt asks: If you could take three months off from your current life and do anything in the world, what would you do?
The truth is, I don’t need three months off from my life. I’ve had several years off from it! I’m not tied up or weighed down by work, education, significant others, children or any sort of hometown love or pride. If I left, I’d miss my sister and my mom and my cat, but that’s about it. My problem is I can’t afford to fund most of what I’m going to do.
So here’s the question I’m going to answer: If money weren’t an issue, how would you change your life?
The answer is really easy: I would rent an apartment, jump on a plane, and move to the UK with my best friend.
There isn’t even a city I’ve got my heart set on. London would be perfect — for three months or permanently — but Oxford felt like home to me when I was there, and I wouldn’t say no to Birmingham, or Glasgow, or really anywhere else.
Being in the UK would be massively beneficial for my career as a photographer and model — weird though it may sound, I don’t know how to market myself in Spain or in Spanish, or how to find work I want to do. Finding work in the UK? Takes about two clicks.
Having my best friend there with me would be awesome on its own, and it would also help a ton with my modeling and fashion blogging, because she’s a fantastic photographer, and shooting somewhere I love with someone who actually wants to be there would make things so much fun.
All these pictures were taken in 2008 — over five years ago — which is coincidentally the last and only time I’ve met Annemari in person because she lives in Estonia and I’m here in Spain. That is just wrong. (She’ll tell you the same thing, partly because, if we could swap climates, we would.) I’m really hoping I can get a plane ticket for London some time this winter and spend at least a few days there with her. But in my heart of hearts, I want to move there permanently. And I would (will) do so in a heartbeat if (when) I had (have) the funds.
