Outfit Post: Roll Out Your Maps And Papers

posted on October 24, 2013

I love how these pictures turned out. Apparently the trick is to shoot in the morning, before the sun starts hitting, in the shade, and on manual mode with a low aperture. I knew these things in theory but I didn’t realize they’d work so well given my mom’s lack of skill (and enthusiasm) as a photographer.

Really happy with the outfit, too! It was really comfortable but it didn’t feel boring or incomplete. The teal leather jacket makes a splash and the accessories made me feel a bit like a reporter, especially when I held up my camera in front of the mirror.

Slouchy gray tee: H&M | Teal leather jacket: Pimkie | Jeans: Zara (old) | Sneakers: H&M
Glasses: Zennioptical | Crochet newsboy cap: The CC Village on Etsy
Infinity scarf: Delectare on Etsy | Twig ring: Promethean Design on Etsy

This is the leather jacket that I mildly freaked out on Twitter over buying back in July — it was on sale for 14€ so obviously it was a really awesome deal but I can be really weird about spending money sometimes, especially when I go shopping with the idea of buying something else and only that something else in mind. (That something else was those sneakers, which were 10€. I actually also got the tee the same day, and another pair of jeans I’ve worn on the blog twice before.)

I’ve never had a jacket quite this… flashy before, and I’m pretty new at leather jackets too (I got my first in January, in black, from the same store, with a gift card from my aunt), so I was worried it would be one of those pieces of clothing I feel uncomfortable wearing without a full face of makeup and so end up never wearing at all.

Happily, I was wrong! I felt totally at home in it even though all the makeup I could be bothered to put on was a bit of peachy pink lipstick. A+ decision, July self. Well done.

I also want to point out the accessories here, because they complete the look. I got the emerald infinity scarf earlier this month from Justyna of Delectare (and by the way, check this out. I may not have got it but someone should) and if you follow me on Twitter, you already know that I’m smitten with it. There’s something about the yarn and the knitting pattern that is ridiculously lovely. I couldn’t stop touching it when I first opened the package and I still get a little starry-eyed over it.

A newsboy cap is something I’d been wanting to add to my hat collection for a while and I finally got my wish last week thanks to Siham from The CC Village. It’s comfy and casual and I love the crown-like pattern on this one — it’s so striking and takes the hat’s awesomeness to a whole new level.

As for the twig ring, I’ve sung the praises of Caroline’s work before (when my blog was on WordPress!) and the awe hasn’t worn off yet. It’s such a beautiful ring, and made so much lovelier by the fact that it’s hand-forged and Caroline is super friendly.

Oh, by the way, I chopped an inch off my hair. It’s okay if you didn’t notice — neither did anybody else, ha. My hair does that random wavy thing it does that’s great because it mostly masks any flaws in my self-cuts, but it also hides minor changes and this one was definitely minor. I kept the same style; I just wanted to get rid of my (possible) split ends. (I say ‘possible’ because it’s one of those things I just can’t see, like when someone says they’ve lost or gained five pounds and I have to take their word for it.)

Then I took a bunch of photos of the hat and the scarf on their own and had a pretty productive day that made up for my unusually useless Monday. Now if only I could make this whole shebang into a habit.

Thanks! It took me ages to decide on it (I was torn between teal and… pink? Red?) and then to decide to buy it so I’m super relieved I love it so much on.
