Travel Photography: Capturing Colours

posted on October 11, 2013

I warned you this would happen. Linking up with Jessica for Photography Friday and Aimee for Find Beauty Friday — though this may be stretching the concept of the latter a bit too far. The thing is, in many ways I only just stumbled upon some of these, even though they were taken ages ago. It feels appropriate.

YELLOW

A water lily in the Botanic Gardens in Oxford, England. [ print available here ]

yellow-amsterdam-airport
Big shiny yellow signs in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

yellow-oxford-pembroke
Pembroke Street in Oxford. Yellow, orange, same thing, right?

RED

red-yellow-oxford-wall
A wall in Oxford. Obviously not that red, but very colorful, which is why I used it for the post banner(s).

red-oxford-winchester
Winchester Road in Oxford. I love the tones here. Also, I fully took a photo because I was still vaguely into Supernatural back then. Rifles, though.

red-oxford-girl
A woman reading The Time Machine by H.G. Wells in the Costa Coffee inside Waterstones on Cornmarket Street in Oxford. This is the kind of random creepball picture where I’m like damn, I wish I could find this person and give this photo to them. If a photo like this existed of me, I’d like to have it, you know? But it was a creepball shot, and I never saw her again.

red-brighton-bnb
The third floor of the bed and breakfast I stayed at in Brighton.

WHITE

white-oxford-costa
Empty armchairs in the same Costa Coffee in Oxford as the woman above.

white-london-park
A corner of Green Park in London.

white-london-statue-bw
A close-up of the girl and boy in the Peter Pan statue in Kensington Gardens, London.

white-london-duck
A duck in Hyde Park. London.

brighton-pier

white-amsterdam-airport
Waiting for a delayed flight in Schiphol Airport.

GREEN

BLUE

blue-oxford-signs
Street signs in Oxford.

blue-oxford-tent
A striped blue and white tent in Oxford. Something related to Open Air Theatre by the Oxford Shakespeare Company — As You Like It specifically.

blue-oxford-fence
The fence and coat of arms outside the lawn above. Oxford.

blue-oxford-door
A turquoise door in Oxford. [ print available here ]

blue-oxford-door-2
Another turquoise door in Oxford.

In other news, I miss England. No one is surprised. I want to move to you, England! Somebody put me up.

Lix these are amazing! I wish I had the guts to take more creepball pictures. I saw an old couple cuddling on a bench at the park earlier this week and tried to get a photo but they caught me. Oops! I pretended I was taking pics of the tree beside them haha. Thanks for linking up! xo

I… know that feeling, ha. I wish I weren’t so scared of asking people to photograph them, too – it’s one thing to take a creepball pic of someone in a coffeeshop and another entirely to do street style shots and such, which I REALLY want to do sometimes, sigh. Thank you!

  • Stephanie

I love these photos! I really need to get out and about to take more photos. I really like the water lily.

Thank you! I should probably do that too. I just – this town. I know one of the points of the Find Beauty link-up is to, well, find beauty around us, but I’ve tried and I just don’t think I can anywhere nearby. I’d have to go all the way to the outer edges of town and I’m faaar too lazy to do that. /o

These are all SO amazing! Seriously, I can’t pick a favorite, they are all so good! England looks absolutely beautiful. When I was there I was way too young to remember, let alone take pictures :( I shall live vicariously through you if you ever go back! haha.
thanks so much for linking up with us!

Thanks! I’m just utterly in love with England. Oxford in particular was such a visual joy to wander around with a camera. And a joy in general, too. I’ve never felt more at home in a place.
