I saw this tag on Hayley’s blog and thought it was an excellent excuse to do another Cat Lately post. Bless this asshole.
What is your pet’s name?
Oxford! Unofficially, Oxford Hewett d’Scrogneugneu. Don’t ask. I also call him “cat,” “rat,” “teta” (literally “boob,” came from gato > gatito > gatete > tete > teta), baby, a number of other animal names, and several cursewords. He never answers to me anyway.
When did you get him?
September 19, 2011.
What is something that Oxford does that annoys you?
Bite and scratch. Lie down just far enough away from me so I can’t pet him. Escape when I cuddle him. Hump my leg over the blanket, the gross-ass. Go to the bathroom in the little parterre beds in the patio after it’s rained and come back with super dirty paws and leave all the dirt and fur on my desk. Knock everything off the shelf by my bed except the 60 cm ruler and the lamp (and he did knock the lamp off once, which is why it’s wobbly now, but it’s not part of his routine).
What type of breed is Oxford?
A… common house cat?
Has Oxford ever had a near death experience?
Nope. *knocks on wood*
Does he know any tricks?
Well. He can leap to the first-floor window. He’s scared the bejeezus out of the little girl whose bedroom that is a few times. If you toss him up on top of a bed, he will not only fall right on his paws, but he’ll do a bunch of weird gymnastics-style twists on the way down. He can knock my door open with his little body. On occasion, he’ll somehow climb onto the top of kitchen furniture from the counter. Even more occasionally, he’ll climb on top of an open window. How he can balance himself up there is beyond me.
My favorite thing he does though is probably be in one place one second and in a completely different one the next without you noticing him moving. Fucking ninja cat.
Does Oxford get along with strangers?
He runs along from strangers until he’s seen them a few times. Then he’s sort of okay with them.
How much does he weigh?
Enough to give my left arm a workout when I cradle him with it for too long. (i.e. I have no idea. I’m bad at telling weight.)
Do you ever dress Oxford up?
Not really, but he does have a Captain America bow tie all his own. I have a matching hair clip. I also made him an elf hat from sweater scraps once.
Has he ever tried to run away?
When he was a wee kitten and he wasn’t afraid of the world beyond the front door, he did run up the stairs a few times. Got locked out in the foyer. But now you can’t walk three feet out the door without him bolting and going back into the house, so I’m not too concerned.
How did you come up with his name?
It was one of those rare meals when I ate in the living room with everyone else, and I just threw around names and my sister threw around names and we vetoed each other’s ideas until we got to city names. It came down to Oxford versus Copenhagen, and my ideal cat was pretty reminiscent of an Oxford shoe, so we settled on that.
On a scale of 1-10 how much does Oxford mean to you?
