So I chopped off my hair.
As usual, I started out subtle, just a couple of inches off, nothing much. But it was boring, and I was bored. So I cut off some more, hollowed out some bits, layered some others, and because my hair curls in a very forgiving way, nothing went terribly wrong that I could see.
(I’ve been cutting my own hair for about six, seven years now. My self-esteem does funny things when I go to a salon, and I used to be really serious and specific about my hair. Cutting it myself allowed me a sense of freedom and flexibility that made a huge difference, and also saved me money. Win win.)
Then I flipped my part, and this is what I look like now.
Or, okay, this is what I looked like on Sunday after pulling an all-nighter, still sick — note the chapped lips — and wearing my new (ish) glasses c/o Firmoo.
The hoodie is from H&M and the white tee is from C&A, if anyone wants to know. Laundry day. (I do like that hoodie, but the white tee is no longer all that white.) But more importantly, my new Firmoo glasses!
I lost my old black pair the second day I was in London — I put them in my pocket to take pictures (they get in the way sometimes), went back to the hotel, went to wash my face, and they were gone, never to be seen again. I did have another pair of black glasses, but they were a pair I kept as a spare since they made me look like a bug. I have a small head, you see. I’m limited to the petite department, and I didn’t know that existed at the time.
So I had a chance to work with Firmoo, and I took the opportunity to get a new pair of black glasses. Because, I don’t know if you know this, but I love black glasses. They’re simple, they go with my leather jacket, they’re comfortable. To me. I know it’s weird to say a color is comfortable, but there you go.
When I first got the glasses, they actually seemed a little big, so I put them in a drawer to take out at a later date to photograph. That later date was Sunday, when I was so sleep-deprived I couldn’t put a coherent sentence together, which was obviously the perfect time to empty the top of my dresser and set up a product shooting station. Which I did. The selfies need a little work, but I’ve always sucked at using the self-timer, so we’ll make do.
My point, which got lost in the rambling there, is that I pulled them out again… and I actually love them now! I don’t know if it’s the haircut — maybe it makes my face look bigger? — but they’re so comfortable and subtle and yes. I am into them.
I’ve wanted to try Firmoo for a while — they have a program where you get your first pair of glasses free; you just have to pay shipping — and I’m not disappointed. The ordering process was easy, the glasses got to me despite initially giving out the wrong address (I hadn’t moved yet, and got the flat number wrong), and the packaging is really very sweet. Have you seen that case? It would only be better if it closed properly, but I chalk that up to rough handling in delivery. I love the cleaning cloth (is that also weird to say? I like the texture! They’re not all the same), and not pictured is a spectacles pouch — which will be useful for shoots, probably. They also come with a tiny little screwdriver.
All in all, I’m pleased with the product and service, and I look forward to wearing the glasses regularly now that I think I look good in them.

Disclosure: I was provided with a pair of glasses for the purpose of an honest review.
