Style / A Warm Winter

posted on January 4, 2016

A Warm Winter / Lix Hewett

Is this global warming? Is it just weird out there? Some may know, but I am not one of them.

It’s not like it’s summer hot outside, but it’s warm enough to prance around without a coat on at 5 in the afternoon, and that’s a little weird. I remember this time in late December or very early January a couple of years back when I tried to shoot a knit dress under my coat, and not only did the pictures come out blue (I hadn’t learned about white balance at the time) but I pretty much decided then and there that I wasn’t putting on another dress until April at the earliest. I kept that promise.

It was around that time that I accepted I couldn’t stand tights no matter how good they looked, so it wasn’t all that hard.

I’ve become pretty good at shopping for myself — you would think you’re born with that skill, but it took me many years to figure out how I worked, clothes-wise, and these days I get a ton of use out of everything I buy. Half this outfit was bought on Oxford Street back in September — I’m wearing the gorgeous booties I splurged on as well as half my Primark purchases: sweater, and not pictured: long-sleeve tee, bra, two pairs of socks.

The jeans were the only (kinda) flare, (kinda) thick jeans I could find in town, because all anyone ever sells anymore is skinny jeans that are so thin they’re more like leggings and I bloody hate leggings and if I wanted to wear leggings, I would not wear jeans! Why is this a thing? I had a browse online before going to a few stores and ended up buying the exact same jeans I’d found on the Zara website. Even the store itself has changed and is weirdly disappointing now? But at least the jeans are good.

And so: a post featuring an outfit I wear roughly once a week. Comfy stuff.

Ooh! So in love with your beautiful pink sweater! And yes, this year has been strangely warm! But after new years, the cold finally came to Berlin and it has been snowing! So happy about that!

My phone weather app said it was snowing the other night and I was like, “no way,” and yep, it was lying. LOL. It only ever snows here in like March, completely out of the blue and every few years. And the way the weather’s been lately I don’t think it’s in the cards. Thankfully I’m not that big on snow – possibly because it melts really fast here, so it’s basically slippery dirt by the time I see it.

YOU ROCK THOSE FLARE JEANS. They’re still on my list of “things-I-want-to-try-to-pull-off-but-my-petite-legs-scream-no-leave-us-alone”. And the weather really has been abnormally warm for the season, but now it seems like it’s plunging STRAIGHT INTO WINTER and leaving no one safe, at least in NYC. Hopefully it’s starting to get colder in your area too, mainly for the comfort of knowing Mother Nature is at least somewhat normal still.

I always feel weirder in skinny jeans when I’m wearing flats because of the short legs issue…and the big feet thing, which is a different issue, lol. I find flare jeans so comfortable and trends can come and go but I will never leave flare jeans. [hugs them to bosom] Heels help!

It was super cold over the weekend here but it seems to have gone straight back to 11-14 degrees Celsius again. I… don’t mind, entirely? I do have that goal of shooting an outfit each week and it would help to not freeze when taking off my coat to shoot.

You have such an amazing style that suits you so well! I love that shadee of pink it’s so gorgeous. It’s started to get really cold here and snow is apparently on the horizon! Lovely post xxxx

Thank you so much! I’m still trying to find the right balance between ‘super comfortable’ and ‘not incredibly boring’, but I’m making good progress, I think!

My phone SAID it was snowing the other day at night but it was a vile lie. My phone lies. It was pretty cold on Saturday, but then this morning I got out of the shower and didn’t get cold for about forty minutes, so… I’m not totally sure where we stand right now. Back to 10-14C degrees, looks like. Which I’m not going to complain about, means I can shoot outside without freezing sometimes.
