Style / Icicles

posted on January 11, 2016

Style / Ice Forest

The icicles are each one of my individual limbs. To be clear there.

Since I moved home I’ve gone shopping more often than I used to, mainly because I keep running out of clothes to wear while I wait for them to finish drying, and even if I could afford a dryer I wouldn’t have a place to put it. This was one such time. I always look significantly better put together on laundry day, because when I have things to choose from, I always choose the same stuff. And I like that stuff! So on Saturday, while I was waiting for my jeans to dry, I scavenged around my closet for something to wear under my new shiny green coat — a gift from a friend — and go find myself a new pair of jeans, and shoot an interesting outfit while I was at it, since me wearing interesting outfits is such a rare occurrence.

It was cold and rushed and while I was editing the photos, I kept rumbling, “I can’t believe I wore tights for this.” But that’s week 1 of 52 self-portraits complete! (I haven’t picked the One yet. Possibly the one above?) And the coat is awesome, shopping was quite successful, and my jeans were dry when I came back.

It’s possible, however, that I lost the tights and the hairdo around Zara, and walked around in mismatched socks and bare legs in the middle of winter for about an hour. You guys, tights suck. Why do they have to look good?

I also fished a Clarins lipstick out of my makeup bag that I can’t trace back to an origin, which is bugging me a LOT. It must have been an event goodie bag thing, right? Like, I know the other lipstick I acquired in London was from #bloggersfestival. But I’m blanking. 2014: what even happened there.

And that’s why I’m trying to keep better track this year. That and general health reasons.

that coat is beautiful. I love a nice shaped coat! And the matching nail varnish!

    • Lix Hewett

Isn’t it? I’m so so in love with the color and the texture in particular. I hate makeup but I’m trying to at least do nail polish every week or every other week, it’s always a lovely detail in outfit posts and it’s no hassle really.

  • Natasha Mila

Love this one :) The coat is awesome and your hair is fantastic in these.

    • Lix Hewett

Thank you!! I need to figure out a way to hold my hair back like this without a weird ugly ponytail on the back, haha.

  • jho

That coat is everything and your photographs are stunning. I used to hate wearing stockings as a child but now, I love em. haha

I hated them as a kid and hate them now! Honestly, I don’t know what it is, I guess I’m just picky about textures? And I don’t like leggings either or most skinny pants or anything that hugs my ankles too tightly. I have no problem with socks though, even thigh-high ones (though I usually wear normal height socks). It’s just… tights. Yikes.

      Thank you!

So in love with that coat! Both the colour, and shape of that collar. Gorgeous pictures!

I’ve wanted a green coat for aaaages so I’m just SMITTEN with this one. Thank you!

That coat! What an interesting shape! & LOL tights are one of my favorite things to wear because that means wearing skirts which means the most movement while looking good! Like I can’t sit pretzel-style while wearing jeans, but tights? So easy! Good luck with your 52 self portraits! Can’t wait to see the rest :)

    • Lix Hewett

Haha, I don’t know if it’s a weird shape or just that I’m so small! Finding a coat that really fits is impossible, this is about as close as it gets.

I love wearing dresses in summer, without tights. I just can’t stand the feeling of them, the texture, the thought of touching them and getting my nails caught in them, any of it. I can sit pretzel style while wearing jeans though ;) probs because most of mine are flare jeans and not super tight.

I love that first photo of you!!! The coat is all kinds of fabulous.

What a cute outfit! Ughhhh, tights are such a bittersweet accessory for me as well – annoying yet somehow still adorable…for the sake of fashion!

Thank you! I used to try and wear them out at least, because they can add such a cute touch to outfits, especially colorful ones. But I just. No.

  • Emma Inks

The colour of the coat is beautiful, also totally feel you on the tights issue they look so good but are so annoying!

I don’t know why I’m so damn picky about fabric on my legs but I AM and it’s better to accept it than fight it, right?

  • Sara Strauss

That coat is amazing! It looks like a chic blanket, which is the best when it’s freezing out! The color is fab on you!

      EXACTLY. Thank you!

  • Kate Amunrud

I seriously love this coat. Such a great color.

    • Lix Hewett

It goes with my branding, too. I may do an outfit based on my blog palette. :p

      • Kate Amunrud

You should! I’d love to see that.

        • Lix Hewett

I’ve got the yellow and black dress and the navy and black shoes and red lipstick. The only thing missing is green, which the coat could be!

  • Jen Hsieh

THIS COAT. YOUR MATCHING NAILS. Currently melting into a pile of heart-eye emojis.

But seriously, photos in the cold are just brutal. Every time I ask Jeremy to snap a few shots in the morning before work, I see a look of panic and genuine fear in his eyes, haha.

Was pretty proud of myself for painting my nails, ngl. I have an entire bowl of polishes and I should use them before they get fucked.

Oh god, I have Raynaud’s so proper cold = yeah, let’s wait a month or two to take photos. It’s not so bad here at the moment – some days are colder than others, but overall it’s okay to go out with a coat and actual long sleeves and pants underneath. That’s what was missing here, long sleeves and pants.

  • Rachel

Love your coat. I have a green coat shaped whole in my wardrobe and this would be so perfect :) but alas i do not need another coat (darn it, lol!) However at least i get to see yours looking fabulous on you!XX

    • Lix Hewett

I probably wouldn’t have bought one on my own, but I’ve always wanted a green coat… and now I still want a green coat, but a different shade of green and style, the style I imagine Eileen from Connie Willis’s Blackout/All Clear wearing in the 40s, haha. I’m obsessed with coats, though. They’re just not a basic need, so whenever I can afford to buy something, I try to be pragmatic and fill a void. <3

  • Margot

I so understand this. I used to always tell my mom “I got nothing to wear” when my closet was full but none of it felt good wearing and the only things that felt good wearing were in the washing machine .. So I’d go out and buy some new clothes that sometimes became those I-want-to-wear-them-everyday pieces but sometimes ended up in the closet, almost never to be worn again. I think it’s because I’m on the curvier/heavier side that not many clothes really fit me well you know? I want it to be comfortable (I quite like tights actually!) but I want to feel good/sexy too ..

  • Tania Jayne

I love this outfit, you look absolutely gorgeous! I always look awful on laundry day, as I tend to end up mismatched or in really old clothes. Oh well! Your photography is gorgeous, I wish I had the confidence to pose for photos in public. I’ll get there eventually, but for now I’m just going to admire yours! Xx

Great coat! It’s not cool enough in Sydney yet but I will keep it in mind! I would love you to stop by my blog if you get a chance and add this post to my fashion blogger link up. I think my readers would really like your style.
